“The strongest logos tell simple stories” Sol Sender, American graphic designer and brand strategist
1. THE ROLE OF LOGOS
Logos are a very powerful means of spreading messages, popular among students and easy to make and use. They are motivating and can stimulate action. They give a sense of “mission” and people identify well with them.
2. OUR EMB EXPERIENCE
Numerous logos were created in our ten schools in the 1st Module of our project. Specific instructions were given. In some countries a competition also took place, to shortlist candidate logos for the final competition in Varna, Bulgaria, December 2014, where our EMB logo was selected after voting procedures. The activity had a very positive impact on individual students and on our schools. It made the students come closer to each other and in a way, it worked towards the preventing of bullying in our schools from the very beginning of the EMB project, while it promoted friendship.
3. SKILLS ACQUISITION
Students can use drawing, collage techniques, electronic means or phographs. They acquire or enhance these techniques with a sense of fullfillment. They can also improve interpersonal communication if a logo is a team product or if their creators consult their peer.
4. OVERALL BENEFIT
In todays world of fast communication via social media, the ability to “speak without words” is both pleasant and desirable.
Logos are easy, fast and effective.
They are immediate and spread clear messages.
They are colourful and eye-catching.
They are a solid basis for a school competition where you can engage the whole school community.
They are convenient in difficult situations that might arise: discriminations, racism.etc.
Paraphrasing a well-known motto, we claim that: “ A logo is a thousand words”. Used in a class, it helps its members express themselves, giving them the chance of bonding in pursuit of a higher goal.
5. WHEN TO USE LOGOS
Anytime during the teaching procedure a logo is recommended:
To create class morale/atmoshere
To share positive messages and beliefs among classes
To decorate school on “Special Days”
To promote the schools principles or human values such as: honesty, modesty, solidatity, discipline, team spirit, learning
